Creative and interactive techniques that support the participant’s learning journey.
In many of our clients’ scenarios, new employees are placed side-by-side with a coworker for an extended period of time. Sometimes without touching the mouse or keyboard, they’re expected to do a new job. This is the worst way to learn! There’s no documentation to learn from, no proper knowledge transfer between people, and worst of all, no hands-on experience.
Or, employees may walk out of a classroom and only retain a small percentage of what they’ve learned. This is another sign of poor instructional design. When teaching adults, spoon-feeding them information usually doesn’t produce good results.
Lokahi Consulting helps both small and large companies that lack training documentation, proper employee training, or that simply don’t have the time to train new employees. We can also help departments whose instructional designers or trainers may be at maximum capacity.
What Successful Instructional Design Looks Like
Training is a crucial part of any company undergoing change. Specific departments may be impacted, and employees must learn a new way of doing their jobs.
Lokahi Consulting blends content with adult learning principles to ensure that employees receive the best training that fits their learning styles. We facilitate discussions so that participants are guided to have their own “a-ha” moments in their learning journey, and provide ongoing support for their growth and development. Our methods ensure that learners are not only informed, interested, engaged, motivated, and developing new skills, but also retaining information, having fun, and increasing confidence in their roles.
We tailor subject matter, techniques, and conversations to suit your company’s training needs and goals.
How Lokahi Consulting Works With Your Organization
When you work with Lokahi Consulting, we start with a needs assessment and provide you with an instructional designer that has the right skill set and personality for your team. Whether it’s a full onboarding program for new employees, a specialized workshop, or an online lesson, we design and develop the right course, and facilitate the training. We do this either online, or in-person.
Online Learning
eLearning programs are self-contained, usually self-paced, and designed to be completed in one session. eLearning can include a combination of text, images, video, interaction, and narration. It uses a linear structure involving lessons, followed by a knowledge check or final assessment.
Online training programs involve a series of learning lessons that are more dynamic than eLearning. They include a combination of videos, interactions, images, webinars, classic presentations, online polls, quizzes, eLearning modules, and scenario group work. Led by an instructor, online learning is typically staggered and completed over several days or weeks.
We can also assist with implementing a Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Face-to-Face Training
Not everyone learns the same way, and that’s why we develop training that blends audial, visual, and tactile learning styles. We use a combination of lectures, visuals, group discussions, activities, and engaging, hands-on interactive experiences so that learners come up with the answers themselves.
Instructor-led learning can include:
Classroom training
Workshops
Training programs
Onboarding programs
Something that sounds as simple as learning a new software application requires not just new knowledge, but also a new process and behaviour. When training is only lecture-based, retention is about 20%. If it includes visuals and audio, that number may go up to 50%.
When you work with Lokahi Consulting, the knowledge that your team learns stays with them. Hands-on learning produces the highest possible retention rate: up to 80%. And, our job training is always documented so that future employees can follow it.
We look forward to creating a curriculum that best fits your business’s needs.
